Everything Smart678 does

Editing the music

• Trim a song to any length. Remove intros, verses, or whole sections and keep only what the routine needs.

• Every cut lands on the beat. Smart678 finds the tempo and the beat grid, so edits snap to the count instead of landing in the middle of a phrase.

• Cuts are tempo-locked. Your cuts are tempo-locked so the beat is always precise - no more off-counts which thwart your dancers from being in sync. Resize a skipped region, and its length changes by the amount of your Snap setting, such as a 4-count or an 8-count.

• The song’s structure, mapped for you. Sections like intro, verse, and chorus are labeled automatically and start on a bar line, so you can see where to cut instead of hunting by ear. Two sections that belong together can be merged from the menu.

• Marks your routine’s real length. Two draggable markers set where the music starts and where the final pose occurs, and the display counts that danced length, not the whole file. Your download is named by it too.

• Smooth joins or clean cuts. Every edit point is either an invisible crossfade or a tight hard cut, with no clicks or pops.

• See the edit and the result. Skip view shows what you’re removing; Result view plays the finished piece.

• Every Skip region shows you if its on the beat. Skip regions that are exactly an 8-count in length (or several 8-counts) are shown in black. Skip regions that are exactly one or more counts in length are shown in gray. And anything that is off-beat is flagged in amber or red, so you always have help getting your edit points perfect.

• Audition before you commit. Double-click a cut to hear the original music again, then put the cut back or remove it for good.

• Repeat a section as easily as you skip one. Option-click any region to make those bars play again, up to eight times through. Stretch an 8-count, double a chorus, or build a longer routine from a short song.

• Lay dialog and sound effects over a song. In Advanced mode, upload your own clip onto its own track for free. It stays with its musical moment through your cuts and speed changes.

• Start from a ready-made edit. The Cookbook holds edit recipes for popular songs. When one exists for your song, Smart678 tells you, and applying it to your own copy is free.

• Set the tempo your way. Tap the tempo, place the downbeat, and choose the time signature when you want manual control. If the count feels twice as fast or twice as slow as you’d count it, press Halve or Double, and press it again to go back. You can also return to Smart678’s own tempo analysis in one click.

• Follows a tempo that drifts. When a recording speeds up or slows down a little, the beat grid follows the song’s own beats instead of forcing one fixed tempo.

• Counts the odd bars correctly. If a song adds an extra beat or two, the count keeps going the way a dancer counts it. An 8-count that runs to 10 or 12, or comes up short at 6, is marked in amber on the ruler so you know before you cut there.

• Several versions of one song. Keep a 2:15 and a 2:35 of the same routine on one card, and switch between them from the song title.

• Start over without uploading again. Clear your edits and begin fresh on the same song. If you change your mind, Undo brings them back.

• Undo, redo, and constant auto-save. Nothing is ever lost, as long as you have an internet connection.

• Trim or pad the head and tail. Add or remove silence at the start and end of the song.

Cleaning lyrics

• Scrub the bad words out. Take a specific word or phrase out of a song so it’s clean for your students to rehearse and perform with.

• One-click instrumental. Mute all the vocals instantly and download the instrumental.

• One-click a cappella. Keep only the vocal, with any scrubs applied, and download the vocal-only track.

• A cappella for just one moment. Scrub the music out of any stretch so only the singer is heard.

Lyric Check

• The words, right under the music. Each word appears under the waveform when it’s sung, so you can quickly find the inappropriate words you want to scrub out. Smart678 listens to the singing in your audio file, so now and then a word may be misheard.

• Click a line to jump there. The Lyrics sidebar lists the song line by line and highlights the line being sung.

• Search the lyrics. Type a word or phrase and jump to each place it’s sung.

• The words follow your edit. In Result view the lyrics follow your cuts and repeats and stay in time at any speed. Words you’ve scrubbed are shown with a strikethrough.

• Lyric Check reads every song for you. It flags language a parent might catch: profanity, slurs, sexual content, drugs, alcohol, violence, and lines that put people down. Flagged words are tinted amber, and each flagged line names the concern, so you can listen, scrub it, cut it, or dismiss it.

• See what you’ve handled. Scrub or cut a flagged moment and its flag clears. The pill then shows how many lyrics you’ve cleaned and how many you’ve cut. If a whole song’s subject is adult, Lyric Check says so, because scrubbing words can’t change a theme.

• Check what your edit kept. If Lyric Check says a whole song’s subject is adult, click Check my edit. It reads only the lyrics your edit still plays. If those are clean, the pill turns green. If a line still needs a look, it’s flagged like any other.

• A heads-up for your ear. Lyric Check can miss a word or flag one that’s fine, so you make the final call.

Tempo

Change the song's speed; keep the pitch the same.

• Speed a song up or slow it down. The song keeps its original pitch at any speed.

• Sounds great at any speed. Behind the scenes, and invisible to the user, we split the song into its constituent parts for tempo adjustment. This means tempo changes in Smart678 sound much better than even professional software packages like Logic or ProTools. Drums and percussion stay crisp, the low-end stays tight, and vocals stay clear and present.

• Make adjustments by BPM, percentage, or routine length. From 75% to 125% of the original tempo, using BPM or percentage. Or type the routine length you need and Smart678 works out the speed.

• One click restores the original speed. Instant.

Making mixes

• Put songs together into one mix. Combine two to twenty songs (or any audio files) into a single soundtrack for one routine.

• Transitions snap to the downbeats. The next song lines up automatically, and a draggable marker picks exactly which downbeat it joins on.

• Each song keeps the full editor. Every song in a mix is its own copy of the edit it came from: trim it, clean it, change its speed, shape its volume, without touching the original in your list.

• Match tempos between songs. Each song in the mix has its own speed control, so two songs can meet at the same tempo.

• Volume lines on every track. Fade one song out under the next exactly the way you want it.

• Re-order songs by dragging. Drag a song to a new spot in the mix, and the transitions line up on the downbeats again. Re-order the songs in your mix instantly, until it sounds perfect.

• Transition sounds. Five original transition sound effects. Drag one onto the timeline and its end lands right on the transition.

• Solo and mute any track. Hear one song alone, or play the mix without the transition sounds. Whatever you silence stays out of the download too.

• Add your own dialog and sound effects. Upload a clip for free and place it anywhere on the sounds track. If you add a short clip as a song by mistake, Smart678 asks first, before any credits are used.

• What you hear is what you download. The mix renders exactly as it previews, named with the mix name and total length.

• Duplicate a mix without using additional credits. Make another version of any mix and shape it differently. Credits are used only when a new song is added to the mix.

• Swapping songs doesn't require more credits. Take a song out and drop another in its place, without using additional credits. (One credit is used if you're importing a new song.)

Working in the editor

• Faster loading. We’ve improved our algorithms, so your uploaded song is analyzed much more quickly than before enabling you to start editing sooner.

• Your song list stays organized as it grows. Recent songs up front, search when the list gets long, and one-click access to everything older.

• The current edit's time is shown front and center. The main display shows the routine length your edits have resulted in at all times, so you know if you have to keep trimming to reach your desired length.

• Set a routine length goal. Tell Smart678 how long the routine should be, and the display shows how many more 8-counts to cut, right beside the current length. Once you’re under the goal, it turns green and tells you by how much. Change the goal any time by clicking the length.

• Follow-the-playhead. The view scrolls to keep your place as the song plays.

• Metronome. A click track on the beat.

• A guard against choppy cuts. If a cut is so short it might sound choppy, Smart678 says so before you download and offers to clean it up.

• Zoom in and out. Fine detail for precise work, or the whole song at a glance.

• Playback works like your music player. Play picks up where you stopped, and clicking or dragging the time bar moves you anywhere in the song.

• A master fader and loudness meter. In Advanced mode, a stereo meter with loudness readings shows how loud your finished file will play, and the fader sets its level.

Extras

• Counting guide. When a song is hard to count for your dancers, click a button to add a voice that counts it out loud. Pick a female or male voice and which counts it says: all eight, or only certain numbers. It can count the whole song or only the parts you need counted. You can also halve or double the counting. Turn it on in Advanced mode. Perfect for rehearsal.

• Counting in mixes. Turn the counting guide on in Mix view and every song you’ve counted speaks its counts, handing over from one song to the next at each transition.

Your file

• Studio-ready downloads. MP3 at 320 kbps, M4A, or WAV at 44.1 kHz / 16-bit, named with your routine’s length.

• Your own name for the work. Name it “Junior Hip Hop Group” once, and every download and its card in My Music carry that name, with the song title beneath. Search My Music by either name.

• Every re-download gets its own label. Keep the suggested v2 or type “FINAL,” and My Music shows that label on the version, so you always know which file is newest.

• The filename says what it is. Every file carries its length, plus Clean, Instrumental, or A Cappella when that applies. If you only scrubbed a few words to smooth a cut, untick “Mark as clean” and Clean stays out of the name.

• Artist and title tags. MP3 and M4A files carry the artist and song title, so the track shows up labeled in your music player.

Credits, credit packs, and sharing within the studio

• Simple credits. One credit unlocks one song, with unlimited revisions and downloads of it forever.

• Never charged twice for the same song. Re-uploading a file you already brought in is free.

• Share credits across your studio. On the My Studio page, a studio owner or administrator can let teachers use the studio’s credits or send a certain number of credits to each teacher.

• Invite a fellow teacher. They get bonus song credits on top of the free trial, and you earn bonus credits once they’re up and running. When each teacher has their own account, there's no danger of one teacher accidentally changing another teacher's song.
